 My thoughts

Historical Romance is a genre providing lots of opportunities. You can dive right into the past by introducing the reader to lovable characters and a heart-warming story. But sadly, there are stories that just pass you by without leaving a trace …

I was lucky enough to get the entire bundle of The Heart Of a Duke-series and when I started reading the first book, I was beyond excited. But the further I read, the more irritated I got… Of course, there are lots of ways of describing the past, but I think you should stick to what is probable and what might have actually been. But certain scenarios – especially when it comes to interactions amongst characters – are not portrayed realistically at all, if you ask me. I might seem a bit pedantic but I am studying history at university – so this is what I pay attention to extensively.

Please, do not get me wrong, if you´re looking for an entertaining love story that will make you laugh and have a relaxed and nice time reading – Christi Caldwell´s bundle of Romance is what you should go for. I have mentioned this a lot already, but I can´t keep myself from emphasizing that I´m not particularly into stories that use language but do not give it the credit it deserves by pushing it to the limits. I love metaphors and all kinds of stylistic devices, I can put my mind on, so I was disappointed not to find any in the books. But if you´re the kind of reader to enjoy simple language and a nice story – I am sure you´ll fall in love with these novels!

The Heart of a Duke-series might be an entertaining read, but failed to convince me of its qualities. Still, I had a nice time, spending a few hours in a world that´s long past…

Thank you so much for my bundle, Christi! You´re a wonderful person and I´m so glad you found our blog and texted us. 🙂

*I get review copies in exchange for honest reviews representing my thoughts on the literary works.
